Medicaid Community Engagement Requirements: What You Need to Know

Join Netsmart for a can’t-miss webinar on the Medicaid Community Engagement/Work Requirements Interim Final Rule. The new rule published on June 3, 2026, requires certain Medicaid adults to document 80 hours per month of work or other approved community engagement activities (unless exempt or granted an exception) as a condition of continued Medicaid eligibility. States will be required to implement and administer the program by 2027.

The session will cover new requirements for individuals subject to the 80-hour monthly community engagement activities requirement, as well as:

  • Qualifying activities: Employment, participation in approved work programs, community service, or education/training programs
  • Exemptions: Pregnant individuals, those with disabilities, circumstances like serious medical needs or disaster-related disruptions may impact the new rule
  • State implementation and verification: How states must approach compliance verification, conduct outreach and beneficiary notifications
  • Operational timeline considerations: States are generally required to implement the requirement by January 1, 2027
