Overland Park, Kan., April 9, 2018 – More than 1,600 healthcare professionals from across the U.S. are convening April 8 – 11 at the Phoenix Convention Center for CONNECTIONS2018. Hosted by Netsmart, this event serves as the gathering point for behavioral health, home care, senior living and social services organizations to collaborate and gain insight and understanding from each another through sharing their unique experiences and perspectives in a fast-converging healthcare environment.

The spirit of the event is to do just as its name suggests – create connections and foster relationships among healthcare providers across the continuum of care. CONNECTIONS2018 features more than 100 educational, collaboration and networking opportunities, as well as the chance for attendees to learn from Netsmart and industry experts through examples that demonstrate how to thrive within the emerging healthcare ecosystem by leveraging technology to its fullest potential. Themes for the event focus on client successes and use cases in interoperability; population health management and care management; data optimization for improved clinical outcomes and operational efficiencies; sharing and integrating data with partners and industry best practices.

“Community-based care providers have more in common than they think – like the need to build strategic partnerships with each other, meet industry and government regulations and requirements, and operate with significantly different budgets than their counterparts in other areas,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. “CONNECTIONS2018 allows a diverse group of health professionals to collaborate and learn from one another, and to prepare for what’s on the horizon in healthcare.”

New for CONNECTIONS2018 is a technical track focused specifically on topics for IT professionals within a healthcare organization and features a deeper look into notable topics such as best practices for addressing software updates, health IT and cloud security and disaster recovery.

Pre and post-conference training options give attendees the chance to make the most out of the CONNECTIONS2018 experience with solution-specific offerings that allow users to dive deeper into solution functionality, and industry best practices. Mental Health First Aid training certifies individuals in identifying risk factors and warning signs of a mental health, behavioral health or substance use crisis and equipping them with the right strategies to help someone in need.

Visitors to the Solutionarium exhibit hall can visit with community experts to discuss what is top of mind to gain even more efficiencies and effectiveness. Across various EHR solutions and services, attendees can expect to get firsthand experience of the latest in the following areas and more:

  • User experience

  • Mobile and offline access

  • Integration and connectivity

  • Care coordination and population health management

  • Telehealth and virtual provider networks

  • Revenue cycle trends

  • Real-time clinical decision support and analytics

Valentine will deliver an opening keynote address, focusing on the state of the state and Netsmart updates while also highlighting client achievements and accomplishments from the last year.

Netsmart Executive Vice President Kevin Scalia will lead a panel discussion featuring leaders from notable industry organizations discussing challenges facing all of the client communities Netsmart serves and how they can best thrive in an ever-changing federal legislative and regulatory environment. Participants will include American Health Care Association President and CEO Mark Parkinson, National Association for Home Care and Hospice President Bill Dombi, National Association of Medicaid Directors Executive Director Matt Salo and National Council for Behavioral Health Medical Director Joe Parks, M.D.

An Executive Symposium is available for leaders in healthcare to gain valuable insight and information on topics such as value-based payment models, population health, acute care/post-acute care integration, data optimization and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCHBCs).

Returning for its second year, the Nursing Council offers nursing professionals a chance to network and learn as they focus on critical topics from a nursing context. Mental health and suicide prevention expert Dr. Dan Reidenberg will be on hand to address the topic of suicide and prevention measures. Additional areas of focus of the council include the recent opioid crisis, staffing, documentation, risk management and clinical reconciliation.

“The shift to providing comprehensive, whole-person care has led to increased collaboration across healthcare communities,” said Valentine. ”We’re looking forward to not only sharing insightful examples of where our clients have seen tremendous success, but finding new ways to work alongside our clients to make them successful in serving some of our nation’s most vulnerable populations.”
