Meet the Veterans: Corey Hunt

By Corey Hunt, Learning & Development Program Manager

You’ve seen our Meet the Clinicians series where we showcase our talented and knowledgeable associates with clinical backgrounds. Today, we’re unveiling our latest series, Meet Our Veterans, where we feature associates who have served our nation and their journey to Netsmart.

It’s sincerely a privilege to work alongside individuals who have served our country. We thank them and all military members and their families across the U.S. for their service yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Corey Hunt, Learning & Development Program Manager

1. What motivated you to join the military?

I joined the Navy after seeing Top Gun in high school! After watching trained search and rescue (SAR) swimmers boldly jump out of helicopters, I was hooked. I knew right then it was something I wanted to do and did do for many years.

2. Why did you choose the military branch you did?

The Navy recruiter was relentless!

3. What lead you to a career at Netsmart?

During my time in the Navy I gained experience in training and educating sailors in aviation. When I retired, seeking a career involving learning and education in the corporate sector fit my experience. When you join the Navy, you join something that’s bigger than yourself. I enjoyed feeling as though I was contributing to the greater good and found that same feeling here at Netsmart.

4. Described the transition back into the civilian workforce.

I was warned the transition back into civilian workforce would be difficult, but completely underestimated how hard it would be. It truly required a lifestyle change. Additionally, the transition impacted my entire family. They were patient and supportive as I navigated the cultural shift. I found similar support within my team once settled at Netsmart. We may be small, but we all have one another’s back.

5. How do you recognize Veterans Day?

Each Veterans Day I personally recognize family and friends who gave their life while serving in an armed force for the U.S. It’s a great time to take part in a larger sharing of gratitude for our veterans, past and present.
