Values Matter: Finding Passion in What You Do

By Bret Fischer, Senior Director, Talent Acquisition

As Mental Health Awareness Month is underway, I’m reminded of the importance of job fulfillment and finding an uplifting workplace. While we all have other important components of our lives outside of our careers, such as friends, family and hobbies, working fills a large portion of our week. The amount of time we all spend at work is one of the reasons why I feel it is so important to find passion and purpose in what you do each day, which directly correlates with our mental wellness.

While reflecting on this topic, I think of British businesswoman and activist, Anita Roddick, and the passion she brought to her work. Anita said, “To succeed, you have to believe in something with such a passion that it becomes a reality.” It is this statement that guides one of our core values at Netsmart, to be passionate about what you do.

I spent the vast majority of my career recruiting in the financial services space. I enjoyed my work; however, never really had a true passion for it until getting into healthcare. When I was approached with the idea of joining Netsmart as Head of Talent Acquisition, what led me here was the passion I share with the company in supporting mental health, behavioral health, home care, hospice and long-term care. Knowing the work my team does has a direct impact on improving the lives of individuals and patients in these communities is what motivates me every day.

I love seeing this passion throughout our entire company. It feels like we have the best of both worlds when it comes to having a performance-driven culture with a non-profit feel. It is the connection to our causes that builds a bond with our associates and the work they do. No matter your job function, everything we do together makes a difference to so many people across the United States. If you’re missing this passion in your work, I invite you to take a look at the opportunities at Netsmart.
