What Does The Meaningful Use Chart Show?

You Started Meaningful Use Attestation In 2011 And Did Not Skip A Year

  • You purchased, and then used, an ONC2011 Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution in 2011, 2012 and 2013
  • You will spend three years in Stage 1
  • In 2014, you will use an ONC2014 edition EHR and try to fulfill Stage 2 requirements for 90 days meaningfully

If the proposed rule to delay Stage 2 certification passes:

  • You can elect to stay in Stage 1 for four years instead of three and then use the ONC2011 edition for 2014
  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, you’ll need to attest for Meaningful Use Stage 2 on the ONC2014 edition EHR

You Started Meaningful Use Attestation In 2012 And Did Not Skip A Year

  • You purchased, and then used, an ONC2011 EHR in 2012 and 2013, you’ll spend two years in Stage 1
  • In 2014, you’ll use an ONC2014 edition EHR and go for Stage 2 requirements for 90 days meaningfully

If the proposed rule passes:

  • You can elect to stay in Stage 1 for three years instead of two and use the ONC2011 edition for 2014
  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, you need to attest for MU Stage 2 on the ONC2014 edition EHR

You Started Meaningful Use Attestation In 2013 And Did Not Skip A Year

  • You purchased an EHR solution in 2013
  • You will spend two years in Stage 1
  • You will be using an ONC2014 edition EHR and going for Stage 1 requirements for 90 days meaningfully this year

If the proposed rule passes:

  • You can elect to use an ONC2011 edition EHR for 2014
  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, you need to attest for MU Stage 2 on the ONC2014 edition

If you plan to start receiving MU funds via the Medicaid program in 2014

  • You can do so by purchasing or upgrading to an ONC2014 edition EHR
  • You do not need to show meaningful use in 2014
  • If you’re going for Medicare funding for the first time in 2014, you’ll need to show meaningful use on an ONC2014 edition of the EHR software for 90 days in 2014
  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, you’ll need to attest for MU Stage 1 on the ONC2014 edition
