Netsmart Brings Behavioral Health Perspective to HIMSS Conference Interoperability Showcase
Leading healthcare companies collaborate for demonstration of coordinated clinical data exchange
Overland Park, Kan., February 24, 2014 – Continuity of care and positive outcomes in behavioral health are largely dependent on coordinated clinical data exchange. Netsmart will participate with nine other major healthcare technology providers in a real-life demonstration of this capability in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase at the HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition, Feb. 23-27, 2014 at the Orlando Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
Featured at HIMSS conferences across the globe, HIMSS Interoperability Showcases™ demonstrate the benefits of using standards-based interoperable health IT solutions for effective and secure data exchange.
The Interoperability Showcase at HIMSS14 focuses on record location and exchange in various clinical vignettes, including an unresponsive patient presenting to the emergency department and another patient presenting to a specialist without advance warning. These scenarios illustrate the critical role that a record locator capability plays in ensuring care providers have the most vital patient information accessible at the point of care.
“Providing query-based access for clinicians to authorized records is especially important for behavioral health patients, who may visit an ER or urgent care clinic under difficult circumstances without their medication list and care history,” said Michael Valentine, chief executive officer, Netsmart. “We’re pleased to collaborate with these major acute care technology providers on ways to assure continuity and quality of care across the care spectrum.”
Netsmart’s CareConnect™ solution will play a key role in facilitating the records request and information transfers in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase demo. CareConnect links providers, hospitals, physicians, HIEs, and integrated delivery networks to enhance the patient experience, improve outcomes and reduce the cost of healthcare. CareConnect’s messaging system securely transmits protected health information (PHI) between participants, enabling users of Netsmart and non-Netsmart electronic health records (EHRs) to share information.
Participants in the HIMSS14 Interoperability Showcase include the Care Connectivity Consortium (Geisinger Health System, Intermountain Healthcare, Mayo Clinic, Group Health Cooperative and Kaiser Permanente), eClinicalWorks, Epic, GE Healthcare, Greenway, HealthFusion, MEDITECH, Netsmart, Optum and Surescripts.
The Interoperability Showcase, “Location Query: Finding Patient Records,” is located in Hall F,

Key topics will include care coordination and population health management and the role they play in bending the cost/outcomes curve. Other focus areas will include leveraging data effectively and the role of interoperability and integration in ensuring health information is available and usable to improve care.
