Overview
Netsmart's Vital Records (VR) software solution is a complete vital records management system to automate state or county
vital records departments. VR is designed to address the entire business operation
of the vital records office, from data entry and statistical processing to
fee collection and accounting. VR also facilitates the back office functions
necessary to send those records to the National Center for Health Statistics
(NCHS), Social Security Administration (SSA) and other external agencies. VR from Netsmart Public
Health is designed as a fully-configurable system, with most system specifications
and attributes stored in the database tables. This allows users to easily add
fields to the database, screens, reports, imports and exports. With VR, end users
can make their own changes quickly and inexpensively.

- Online Help System-Press F1 on any screen to
view the help for that field or screen.
- Ad-hoc Reports-Create reports and add them to
the report subsystem.
- Correspondence/Accounting-Incorporates tracking
of all monies collected.
- Number/Change Processing-The user can number
a batch of certificates with system-generated state
file numbers and change any field or set of fields
to a new value. (For example, this is useful where
a postal code changes or when there is a need to
re-send a group of records to SSA or NCHS in the
event of a lost file).
- “Others” Processing-Additional values
can be entered if they are not present in the drop-down
box. This feature lets users enter a new “other” field
or edit an existing one.
- Table Maintenance-Makes it possible to change
a validation table. Old table entries can be marked
as inactive so they won’t be used for new
records, but can still be accessed for historical
reasons.
VR is flexible and designed to grow with users for
the future. Users are provided with complete control
through a simple configuration tool, and can modify
any item related to event registration so the software
best meets their unique needs. This includes changes
such as add fields, change layout, edits, printed
documents, registration types, security roles, event
years, modifications and form letters.
