myAvatar Master Patient Index (MPI)
Netsmart recognizes
that organizations can have any number of databases
within an agency holding a variety of protected health
information. That is why Netsmart offers the myAvatar
Master Patient Index (MPI) module.
myAvatar MPI is the central controller
and maintainer of generic patient information within
a distributed or multi-facility environment. The
major function of the master patient index is to guarantee that
no two clients within the system are given the
same identification code (ID). In addition, the
MPI allows queries for the purpose of searching
for a specific patient. The MPI is responsible
for generating unique patient IDs on request when
a new patient is created. When the MPI generates
a new ID, the ID will never be used again.
At each facility, when a client is presented
for admission, the facility database is searched.
If there are one or more potential matches, the
user determines if the client matches one of the
clients in the list. If the client is identified,
there is already an MPI ID assigned to the client
and the new admission information is simply passed
up to the MPI System.
If no match were found, then the
user would query the MPI for a possible match.
If there are one or more possible matches, a list
is presented to the user to determine if the client
exists in the MPI database. If the client exists,
this ID is used and the new admission information
is recorded in the master patient index database. If the client
did not match, a new MPI ID is created and assigned,
along with basic demographic and admission information.
If there is an update to the demographic, or MPI
Identification Information, it is updated on both
the local database, and the MPI database.
myAvatar MPI also supports images, biometrics, electronic
signatures, customization of displays and Crystal
Report inquiries.
With this technology, organizations can lower
the risk of duplicating client information, lower
the possibility of inaccurate or over-billing and
the accompanying costs creating a faster, more
efficient organization.
