Addiction Management Systems
The Netsmart Technologies Addiction
Management System (AMS) is used to manage over 220
clinics in 38 states across the U.S. We can meet the
needs of a wide variety of clinics, each with their
own state and federal regulatory requirements.
AMS Handles all the Details:
- Clinic Management
- Inventory Management
- Dispensing
- Administration
- Regulatory agency reporting
- Patient, physician and nurse electronic signatures
Dispensing and Inventory
The dispensing and inventory management pieces of the AMS system are the core of the application, and provide agencies with an efficient mechanism for performing the tasks required at the dispensing station.
Standardized procedures will help you:
- Get the station ready quickly
- Insure sanitization
- Dispense the correct inventory
- Move patients through the process quickly
- Track and record the use of all drugs with precision
- Control the process of dispensing to your patients
- Display patient pictures automatically
- Capture signatures easily
- Manage events easily with automatic messages for absences, testing, appointments or billing concerns
Physician Orders
The AMS software lets you write orders in just moments.
- Regular maintenance orders can be completed in seconds
- A Buildup or Detox order can be written quickly
- “Non-linear orders” can be created by varying the dosage and schedule in Buildup or Detox orders
- Vacation orders, or orders for any short-term absence, are simple to create and dispense
- Patients who have permission to come to the clinic less than once a week can be given Extended Dose orders.
The system eliminates the manual work of determining how many doses to give to the patient and at what dose. No more looking for the patient’s chart to determine medications.
Buildup and Detox Orders
The AMS Systems enable easy creation of linear buildups and detoxifications by entering four values:
- The starting value
- The ending value
- The change in dose
- The number of days between each change
Any step within a linear detoxification or buildup can be easily adjusted.
Templates can be created from detoxification and buildup orders, and then applied to other patients.
Vacation or Absence Orders
If the patient is not going to be in the clinic for some reason, i.e. vacation, holiday, etc., you can create an order that would allow for a one-time exception in which more take-home bottles are dispensed to the patient.
Extended Dose Orders
An order can be written to place the patient on an extended dosing schedule.
Comprehensive Reporting
Reports that satisfy the DEA, JCAHO, the state... and you.
“The computerized system for preparing methadone doses and methadone accountability is outstanding. It would serve as a model for any methadone program in the country...”
-Excerpt from the report of a state inspector.
AMS offers a wide range of reports that are accurate, configurable to the needs of your clinic and easy to access. With nearly 200 reports, you can readily find the information you need, when you need it.
Lab Tests
Testing is tightly woven into regular clinic processes.
- Behind the Scenes:
AMS works with many laboratories in the U.S. to import electronic test results directly into the system, allowing results for urine analysis tests to be viewed as soon as they are available.
- At the Desk:
Quickly see if a patient should have a test, and seamlessly view the results of previous testing as well. The system will create and display automatic alerts for upcoming tests and for missed tests.
Clinical Capabilities
The AMS software incorporates clinical features, including: progress notes, treatment care plans, appointment scheduling and surveys.
The Treatment Care Plan allows primary, secondary and other patient problems to be recorded. The primary problem includes definitions associated with the problem, defined goals, created objectives and interventions and problem diagnoses using axis codes.
Appointments can be scheduled and completed for one patient or a group of patients. All appointments are displayed in the patient record, and are viewable in the check-in module. Any appointment for a service that is billable can be imported into the billing system.
Surveys allow the clinic to create questionnaires with any number of questions, and track the survey results historically. These surveys can be entered and historical responses can be recorded for each patient.
Clinic Administration
The AMS system provides the ability to set many clinic-wide standards. You also have flexibility in what you allow your staff to access or not access.
Billing Module
Third-party billing is performed in a separate module that is integrated with the Clinic Management system. Billable events are imported from the dispensing system into the billing system. Billable events can arise from either the dispensing process or the appointment module.
A HIPAA-compliant billing file is generated, and the system can also import the 835 remittance advice.
Benefits
Cost savings and more time to care for your patients.
Return on Investment for Methadone Clinics
Automating the routine, time consuming tasks of a methadone clinic can save thousands of dollars every month. State, federal and accreditation organizations are constantly increasing the amount of work required to dispense methadone. There are many reports to be compiled on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. Having these reports prepared automatically would pay for the system.
Dispensing
With the AMS Methadone Treatment System, the productivity of a nurse is doubled when dispensing methadone or LAAM. A single nurse can dispense to 100 patients per hour. Patients sign an electronic signature pad when they receive their medications. Their signature is recorded in the system and can be printed out at any point. Attendance is generated automatically, and actions can be triggered if the patient is absent for a period of time.
Reduced Reliance on Physical Records
Currently, nothing can completely remove the need for a physical patient chart, but the AMS system comes close. All information about the patient is stored with the patient’s electronic chart.
