Quality Health Management Through Key Clinical Solutions
Automate your agency's clinical practices and establish the foundation for an electronic health record.
One of the most notable medical advances of the 21st
century will be the application of information technology
to healthcare. Although the concept of using technology
to improve healthcare has existed for many decades, an emerging national health
information infrastructure will enable all segments of the healthcare system,
including behavioral health and public health, to interact seamlessly as they facilitate
safe, high quality care for consumers.
Automating clinical practices and providing
electronic access to records will be a key element of
this technological transformation. With a focus on improving
quality, containing cost and assuring client safety,
Netsmart Technologies’
Clinical Solutions are applicable to all stages of clinical automation
in large and small provider organizations.
This combination
of software, business services and partner technologies
address an organization’s
immediate and long term clinical requirements while building
the foundation, processes and infrastructure toward a
comprehensive electronic health record vision and
strategy.
Benefits of Electronic Medical Records
- Improves quality of care and client safety
- Increases
efficiency and reduces costs through improved documentation and clinical records management
- Provides
real-time access to clinical information
- Increases productivity,
which results in more clients served
- Establishes the foundation
for an effective, integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) strategy
Electronic Health Record Capabilities
The success of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) is closely tied
to the ability of an organization to effectively
transition the majority of their clinical documentation
from paper-based systems to electronic systems,
while still maintaining staff productivity.
Netsmart's
award-winning EHR solution, Avatar CWS, integrates
the clinical tools necessary for an interdisciplinary
approach to services delivery, including: Treatment/Care Planning, Individual and Group Progress
Notes, Assessments, Nursing Reports and Workflow
Management. In addition, the EHR supports electronic
views of laboratory results and other interdepartmental
data and has optional features such as MDS entry/tracking,
computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and pharmacy
integration including polypharmacy and drug switching.
This integration of software and services
facilitates the creation of effective treatment
plans, provides justification of medical necessity,
and satisfies requirements of accreditation organizations
like CARF and JCAHO.
e-Prescribing
An e-Prescribing solution
is a key technology within Netsmart’s clinical solution set and a major component
of an electronic health record (EHR). Avatar
e-Prescribing is an innovative electronic prescribing
service built for behavioral health enabling physicians
and practitioners to send prescriptions and refills
to pharmacies in seconds.
The Netsmart e-Prescribing solution is provided
as an application service provider (ASP) service
to allow users
with access to the system from any
computer or tablet PC with an internet connection.
Features of the solution allow physicians and nurse
practitioners to write legible prescriptions and
approve refills securely and electronically
to
all pharmacies. Additional point of care key
features
include – check drug-to-drug interactions,
drug-to-allergy interactions, patient eligibility, formulary,
prescription renewal and extensive reporting capabilities
designed specifically for
a behavioral healthcare organization. The
solution provides prescribing physicians and pharmacists
with a secure, effective way to reduce the chance of
prescription
medication errors, while also expediting
the process and lowering overhead costs.
For organizations using other
practice management and clinical software, Netsmart
offers Infoscriber, an
e-Prescribing solution that can be integrated
into your
existing software.
MobileConnect
The MobileConnect solution,
based on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA),
is an advanced option within Netsmart Technologies’ suite of products that offers access
to case management data, case notes and other important
decision-support tools away from the office. Electronic
records are accessed and managed at the point of service,
providing the worker with vital information and eliminating
the need to re-enter service records and related data
upon their return to
the office. Recording events
at the time of their occurrence improves data accuracy,
saves time and allows the work to focus on the person
needing care, instead of the paperwork. The
MobileConnect solution brings the EHR
to the care giver or clinician in the field, supporting
an integrated view to critical information.
Methadone
Netsmart Technologies offers methadone software
solutions for both stand-alone clinics, Addiction
Management Systems, or as part of an integrated
system with our practice management solution, Avatar
AM, for the monitoring and administering of methadone
and other controlled substances, all with complete
identity verification. Eliminating the inefficient
manual processes associated with methadone dispensing, the Netsmart methadone software solution completes all statutory
reporting requirements automatically. Reducing
the time taken to dispense methadone to less than
a minute provides for an attractive business opportunity
via an increase in patient numbers with no additional
resources, and with full integration with the dispensing
pumps.
Service Authorization
The Service Authorization
component of Netsmart’s
managed care solutions, Avatar MSO, is suited for payer
organizations that act as the initial contact for the
client. With the trend toward service integration and “no
wrong door” access, Netsmart’s ability
to make data available at any point in the treatment
process is critical.
Netsmart enables an organization to evaluate
clinical
necessity through a series of upfront
assessment
processes, validate eligibility, establish
the initial goals and treatment plan, and recommend
an appropriate provider for service delivery. Providers
are matched with clients based upon clinical specialty,
location, network status and other relevant factors.
This provides an efficient clinical decision-making
method for initial and ongoing treatment, plus
additional service authorizations.
Netsmart
also offers the ability for providers to enroll new clients and enter authorization requests
with CareLink. The provider-enabled solution can
be used with CareNet, Netsmart’s managed services ASP
solution for substance abuse organizations,
or the managed services software application, Avatar MSO.
Public Health
Netsmart has software solutions for all sizes and types of public health departments, from City and County Health Departments to the largest Statewide Public Health System. Insight is a Windows-based public health product for City, County and State Public Health Departments providing support for a full range of public health programs in a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) product. State Public Health Departments also have the choice of Avatar PH, a software platform solution built upon the Avatar product suite, which is a customizable, scalable platform that can serve as a common platform for a variety of service areas including public health, mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse. Netsmart also offers a Vital Records System (VRS), a complete vital records management system to automate state or local vital records departments.
Pharmacy Management
Netsmart’s pharmacy management solution can be deployed as an integrated component of Netsmart’s Avatar, CMHC/MIS behavioral health and Insight public health enterprise software solutions, or as a standalone application in conjunction with an existing hospital or other healthcare information system.
The solution enables Netsmart customer organizations that operate their own pharmacies to integrate pharmacy management with their electronic health record (EHR), computerized physician order entry (CPOE), electronic medication administration records (eMAR) and electronic medical record (EMR) capabilities provided by their Netsmart enterprise software. The solution also helps Netsmart customers meet the ‘meaningful use’ requirements for funding eligibility under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which include medication management and electronic prescribing requirements.
