Michael Valentine
Chief Executive Officer

Michael Valentine is responsible for setting Netsmart’s vision and strategy, assuring the accomplishment of business objectives, securing resources for growth, and working with the executive management team to support Netsmart’s mission and vision on behalf of its clients.

Mr. Valentine joined Netsmart in May 2011 from Cerner Corporation, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He held a succession of business ownership roles during his 13 years at Cerner. Prior to his role as COO, he maintained ownership of all client delivery and relationships for Cerner's worldwide operations. This included serving as a driving force behind the advancements made in the predictable delivery of Cerner’s solutions to its clients—most notably the standardization and centralization of Cerner’s delivery mechanisms. Additionally, under his leadership, Cerner advanced its solutions through innovations with key client partners and other strategic partners.

Prior to joining Cerner, Mr. Valentine started and managed a Midwest-based technology solutions and services company. Before that, he was an executive in telecommunications and technology industry groups for seven years at Andersen Consulting.

Mr. Valentine earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Kansas State University.

Anthony Grisanti
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Grisanti is responsible for Netsmart’s financial, budgeting and cash management processes and human resources. He also oversees preparation and filing of the company’s financial statements, and provision of company performance and financial information to analysts and the investment community.

Mr. Grisanti also assists the company’s executive committee with development of business objectives, acquisition strategy and in new business opportunities.

Prior to joining Netsmart in 1994, Mr. Grisanti worked as a CPA for several

accounting firms and served for 18 years as treasurer of Advanced Computer Techniques Corporation.

Mr. Grisanti received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with

a major in public accounting from Pace University.

Doug Abel
Executive Vice President, Solutions Delivery

Mr. Abel and his team are responsible for the comprehensive, collaborative on-time deployment of Netsmart solutions for client organizations across the country.

Prior to joining Netsmart, Mr. Abel served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Anne Arundel Health System (AAHS) in Annapolis, Maryland. At AAHS, he was responsible for all IT activities, including software applications, telecommunications, health information management and biomedical engineering as well as all supply chain functions. He has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare information systems management.

Prior to joining AAHS, Mr. Abel was Vice President at Cerner Corporation, where he led a large-scale consulting organization that deployed healthcare automation resulting in clinical transformation at academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks (IDNs) and community hospitals.

Mr. Abel has also served as Senior Director at HCIA and held director positions at the University of Maryland Medical System and Ferranti Healthcare Systems.

Mr. Abel earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Elizabethtown College and a Masters in Business Administration degree from Loyola College in Maryland, graduating with honors (Beta Gamma Sigma). He served on the board of directors of the Maryland Chapter of HIMSS and as a member of CHIME, serving on its Advocacy Leadership Committee.  Mr. Abel has also served on the board of directors of the Northland Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City, Missouri and the First Hand Foundation.

James Gargiulo
Executive Vice President, Clients and Solutions

Mr. Gargiulo has executive management responsibility for sales, and works with

product management, solutions delivery, and other Netsmart groups to assure that Netsmart’s products and services meet client requirements. His involvement spans client relationships in community and public health, state systems, and inpatient and outpatient behavioral healthcare.

Mr. Gargiulo joined Netsmart in 1984 after managing a large county mental health and drug/alcohol county system. He also has previous experience as a counselor/ advocate for the developmentally disabled, and a consultant performing research on several aspects of psychiatric illness for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Gargiulo received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and Master of Science degree from the graduate school of the Hahnemann Medical College.

Joseph McGovern
Executive Vice President, Strategic Initiatives

Mr. McGovern is responsible for contracts management, solutions delivery, Netsmart University, Netsmart’s e-Prescription division and the company’s Premier Partner program.

Mr. McGovern joined Netsmart in 1981 and has held numerous management

positions, including project management and implementation, software development, support services, quality control, training and documentation.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University

of Connecticut.

Kevin Scalia
Executive Vice President, Corporate Development

Mr. Scalia’s responsibilities include strategic relationships and new business opportunities, investor relations, marketing and developing alliances with key

industry associations.

Prior to joining Netsmart in 2003, he served as president or chief executive officer of technology companies involved in the development of supercomputers, medical imaging equipment and database applications.

Mr. Scalia received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a Master of Science degree in systems engineering from Polytechnic University.
