Demonstrating Whole Person Care: The Intersection of Cancer and Depression
Netsmart and other healthcare technology leaders demonstrate interoperability and data integration at HIMSS2016
Overland Park, Kan., Feb. 29, 2016 –Rakesh Bhat’s primary care physician knew his patient was at high risk for cancer. After some concerning test results, a radiologist was consulted, a CAT scan done and images retrieved electronically by Bhat’s doctor, who shared a diagnosis of the lung cancer with him. Bhat’s psychiatrist, who was alerted simultaneously, recommended that his client’s prescribed depression medication be changed to a drug known to be more effective during chemotherapy. Bhat is now benefiting from fully-informed physical and behavioral health care, and using his patient portal to follow treatment directions from his care team.
Rakesh is a fictional character, but his case is the focus of the HIMSS16 Interoperability Showcase Feb. 29 through March 3 in Las Vegas. Netsmart, knowledge and technology partner for health and human services provider organizations nationwide, is collaborating with GE Healthcare, Philips, Infor, Merge, and NANTHEALTH to demonstrate how providers can integrate and coordinate care for the “whole person,” by bringing together behavioral and physical health data.
The complex clinical workflow and health data sharing that set the course for treating Rakesh Bhat’s body and mind happened seamlessly thanks to interoperable electronic health records and related connectivity solutions from these six innovative companies.
“Interoperable data sharing is making holistic health a reality,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. “Breaking down silos between physical health, mental health and addiction treatment services insures that the 34 million Americans who are diagnosed with comorbid conditions each year can receive the continuity of care that leads to better outcomes.”
As the leading post-acute care health and human services technology partner, Netsmart will demonstrate the benefits of interoperable solutions like Netsmart CareConnect™ , which offers providers:
Cross-community access to client history for fully-informed care
Behavioral health record sharing with the care team – updated problems, care plans, and medications
Expedited psychiatric referrals
Medication reconciliation, including allergies
Interoperability Showcase visitors will be able to view first-hand how interoperability improves care. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions of Netsmart subject matter experts and Netsmart interoperability partners.
