Netsmart in Healthcare Informatics 100 for Tenth Year

Human services IT leader leverages scale to help clients reach their goals

Overland Park, Kan., June 7, 2016 – In a year that saw Kansas-based Netsmart add to its offerings with acquisitions and strategic alliances, it is perhaps no surprise that the company would land on the Healthcare Informatics HCI 100 for the tenth time. The listing ranks the 100 vendors with the highest revenues derived from healthcare IT products and services earned in the U.S. based on revenue information in 2015.

In 2015, the human services IT leader:

  • Partnered with Cornerstones of Care in a unique “one team” initiative to develop improved clinical and operational processes and solutions that can be broadly scaled to improve services and quality of care for children, families and communities.
  • Acquired privately-held electronic health record (EHR) provider Lavender and Wyatt Systems to accelerate Netsmart’s integrated healthcare vision.
  • Acquired Trend Consulting Services to enhance Netsmart’s ability to help clients manage costs and optimize IT spend and resources.
  • Partnered with speech understanding technology provider M*Modal to integrate voice recognition into Netsmart CareRecord™ solutions (EHRs)

Netsmart remains on a path to continued growth. In April, 2016, Netsmart merged the Allscripts Homecare™ business unit into its CareFabric® suite of solutions, establishing Netsmart as a Top 5 provider of IT to the home health, hospice and private duty home care markets.

What the rankings don’t explain is how the strength of the growing human services and integrated care technology leader creates a collaborative community among its clients, who learn best practices from each other, and innovate and engage with Netsmart in the development of solutions to meet their needs.

“By any measure, Netsmart has tripled in size in the past five years,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine, “and that translates into enormous advantages for current and prospective clients who know that we understand the complexities of, for example, state reporting in every state in the country. In addition, our clients become an extension of Netsmart that others can approach with questions and suggestions on how to better serve vulnerable populations.”

Colorado is one of many states where Netsmart has demonstrated the success of collaboration and strength in numbers. Nine mental health organizations serving dozens of counties across the state participate in a Netsmart user group, which address best practices within client departments, ranging from clinical to technology to billing.

“It feels like we’re in it together,” says Stephen LeClair, database administrator at Mental Health Center of Denver. “There’s a camaraderie. Each of us is solving similar problems in different ways.”

“Mental health clinics in rural areas don’t have a large number of employees, even though Northeast Behavioral Health serves 12 counties while North Range Behavioral Health practices in Weld County and SummitStone Health Partners serves clients in Larimer County” says Liz Faris, director of Electronic Health Records for Northeast Behavioral Health, “A strong user group allows all of us to capitalize on what others have learned.”

Likewise, national Netsmart user groups provide the company with valuable feedback and a “user perspective” for new product features and enhancements. Having clients in all 50 states allows Netsmart to develop practices and solutions that can be shared across the U.S. for the betterment of all.

“Growth for growth’s sake means little,” says Valentine, “but growth that enables us to help our clients positively impact the lives of millions is meaningful.”
