National EveryDayMatters Day Celebrated June 5, 2013

Annual Celebration Debunks Myths and Encourages Conversations About Mental Health

Overland Park, Kan., June 4, 2013 – It’s the largest day of support for mental health awareness. National EveryDayMatters Day, celebrated on this year on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, builds awareness, debunks stigma, inspires support and encourages discussions about mental health issues, as well as promotes the coordination of care between mental and physical health.
Netsmart, the leading provider of clinical solutions for health and human services organizations nationwide, is proud to sponsor the day and the promotions around it in partnership with its 501(c)(3) EveryDayMatters Foundation. Netsmart sponsored the launch of EveryDayMatters and associated website www.everydaymatters.com last year to provide an online community for those who are cause-connected, passionate and vision-driven about behavioral and public health.

The site is an interactive, informational forum for clinicians, practitioners and consumers to share stories, celebrate successes, become enlightened and inspired, debunk myths and stigma, and highlight the positive clinical and financial impacts provided by the behavioral and public health community. National EveryDayMatters Day was originally scheduled to be held on April 16, but the recognition and activities surrounding the day were postponed due to the tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon.

“According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in four adults in America experience a mental health disorder in a given year. Many of us are impacted by mental illness, personally or through our family, friends or work. Yet there remains a stigma in having open, honest conversations about mental illness and its effects,” said Michael Valentine, chief executive officer, Netsmart. “For the benefit of ourselves, our families, our friends and our industry, we have to stop hiding and start talking. Together we can erase the myths associated with discussing mental health issues and start a process that provides opportunities toward hope, healing and health.”

To commemorate National EveryDayMatters Day, the Foundation will host a global cyber conversation where visitors can post and share on EveryDayMatters.com how they make every day matter in their own lives. Their posts can also be shared via Twitter and Facebook to expand the conversation and encourage even more participation. Additionally, there will be promotional opportunities in various locations in New York City for community members to start their own conversations and discuss how they make every day matter.

The non-profit EveryDayMatters Foundation was established in 2012 for organizations within the mental health community to request funds for their cause, or to help fund technology that advances the way care is delivered. For more information, visit www.everydaymatters.com/foundation
