Doug Abel is responsible for the comprehensive, collaborative, on-time deployment of Netsmart solutions to client organizations across the country. In addition, he oversees implementing Netsmart’s signature Plexus Foundation methodology.
Prior to joining Netsmart, Doug served as vice president and chief information officer at Anne Arundel Health System (AAHS) in Annapolis, Md. At AAHS, he was responsible for all IT activities, including software applications, telecommunications, health information management and biomedical engineering, in addition to supply chain functions. He was a vice president at Cerner Corporation before that, where part of his responsibilities included the development of a standard implementation methodology. Today, he has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare information systems management.
Doug holds a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola College and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Elizabethtown College. He has served on the boards of the Maryland chapter of HIMSS, CHIME, the Northland Chamber of Commerce of Kansas City, Mo. and the First Hand Foundation. He is also a founding member of the state of Maryland’s HIE Policy Board.
